First Flowers

First Flowers

Here they are, the first flowers of spring! These aren’t actually the very first daffodils (or buttercups, as they are commonly called around here) of the year, but they are very close. They even got snowed on last week, which is just another year of evidence that my grandmother’s old saying, “It always snows on the buttercups,” is completely valid.

It always makes me happy to see the buttercups (or daffodils) start to show up. These little green shoots start appearing long before the spring flowers and garden are even thought about. Like robins hopping through the grass, they are a symbol of spring.
